Christmas Tree Disposal/Recycle


FREE COLLECTION of real Christmas trees for Lancaster Township residents will take place the week of January 8-11, 2018, by Penn Waste, on your regularly scheduled trash day. These dates are the only free collection days for real trees.

  • This free special collection week applies to real Christmas trees only. Collection takes place on your regularly scheduled trash day. 
  • Artificial trees are not included in the free collection. All artificial trees put out with regular trash MUST have a RED extra service tag attached.
  • ALL decorations must be removed, on both real and artificial trees. Trees should not be in a bag.
  • If you put your real tree out before the start of the free collection week, or if you miss the free collection week, you must purchase and attach to the tree a RED extra service tag. 
  • Artificial trees always require a RED extra service tag.
  • Red Tags – $4.00 each, are purchased at the township office.

  • No artificial trees, and absolutely no woody waste will be accepted.
  • ALL decorations must be removed.
  • Tree IS NOT to be in a bag.
  • This drop-off service is for Lancaster Township Residents ONLY.

RECYCLE your real tree. The following are some suggested Christmas tree drop-off locations for individual residents, haulers, businesses, and municipalities. In order for your tree to be recycled, ALL decorations must be removed, and tree should not be in a bag. No tree stands or plastic (including bags), wire, ornaments, lights, tinsel or other decorations may remain on the trees.

1. Lancaster County Central Park – main entrance located along Chesapeake Street, Lancaster. Call the Park Office at (717) 299-8215 for information and instructions. Trees may be dropped off daily from December 26 through January 31 during regular park hours. Mulch will be available to the public beginning January 4 until January 31. A $1.00/tree donation is requested and appreciated to support park programs. Not for commercial collection.

2. Martin Mulch Products – located at 55 Woodcrest Drive, Ephrata. Call (717) 733-1602 with questions. Trees may be dropped off Monday through Saturday between dawn and dusk. Single trees are $2.00 each; the price varies for larger deliveries.

3. Zeager Brothers – located at 4000 East Harrisburg Pike, Middletown. Call (717) 944-7481 with questions. Trees may be dropped off Monday through Friday between 6 am and 5 pm. No charge. Zeager Brothers will be closed for business on December 25 and January 1.
