Parks and Recreation

The Lancaster Recreation Commission (LRC) is jointly sponsored and supported by Lancaster Township, the City of Lancaster, and the School District of Lancaster. It is governed by a Board of Commissioners composed of representatives from each of the three entities. This commission provides activities, classes, and events for people of all ages. A sampling of offerings are: before and after school child care, day trips for families and overseas trips, children’s and adult swimming and team sports, senior citizens centers, exercise and dance classes.

PARKS IN LANCASTER TOWNSHIP
Hamilton Park Playground: Hamilton Park is a small well-maintained neighborhood park. With swings, sliding board, see-saws, picnic tables, etc., it is a perfect spot for a quiet family picnic.

Lancaster Community Park: This park was created through the cooperative efforts of Lancaster Township, the City of Lancaster, and the Lancaster School District. Groups who wish to schedule events must call the Lancaster Recreation Commission (392-2115). All events are coordinated through the LRC. There are soccer and baseball fields, areas for jogging or walking, a playground area, and a concession stand with restrooms.

Maple Grove: Maple Grove is a passive park with open space for picnics, jogging, and playing your favorite sport along the Little Conestoga Creek. Also located there is the Maple Grove Community Building which is available for rent. It has a fully equipped modern kitchen, rest rooms, and space to accommodate 150 people at a meeting, reception, or party. Call 291-1213 for availability and details.

Windolph Landing Park: Located in the Windolph Landing Development, it is situated along the Conestoga River.  In May 2002 a large new playground was installed for children ages 2 – 11 years.  There are swings, slides, crawl tubes, and climbing apparatus. The park also includes benches, a pavilion, and hiking trail.
