Recycling Update-July 11, 2018

The current China restrictions on certain recycled commodities has brought to light a crisis within the U.S. recycling industry. This does not just impact Lancaster Township or Lancaster County–this crisis has necessitated an overhaul to recycling across the country.

The list of acceptable materials for placement in the curbside recycling bin has changed. LCSWMA (Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority) is recommending ONLY the “Big 4” be placed in the curbside recycling bin.

Residents can start NOW with recycling the “Big 4”. No materials other than what’s listed should be placed in the bin—when in doubt, throw it outLCSWMA will transform the trash into renewable energy for the community.

CURBSIDE Recycling List Revised to the “Big 4”

  • Corrugated Cardboard (clean, flattened)
  • Plastic Bottles & Jugs (with a neck)
  • Metal Food & Beverage Cans
  • Glass Bottles & Jars

Residents are encouraged to visit LCSWMA’s website and social media pages for more helpful information and tips on what can be recycled and how:
